MSU to honor '79 champs

Michigan State has been celebrating the 30th anniversary of its 1979 NCAA Championship all season, and on Sunday, the players who made it possible will be honored.

Members of the 1979 team will be recognized at halftime of the MSU-Wisconsin game, which tips off at 3 p.m. at the Breslin Center.

MSU is expecting nearly every player and coach from that team to be present for the ceremony, including Earvin (Magic) Johnson.

Forward Rob Gonzalez is the only player so far who has confirmed that he will not be able to attend.

MSU kicked off the first day of the 2008-09 season with a tribute to the 1979 team at its Midnight Madness festivities in October, and players wore throwback uniforms in honor of the team.
